Do Bed Bug Killer Kits Actually Work To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

Extreme Bed Bug Control

Published: September, 2023

You’ve probably seen those bed bug killer kits in shops and online. They vary greatly in price – some being pretty expensive. People always want to try DIY methods to get rid of pests, before thinking of incurring the expense of hiring professionals. With some pests, this makes sense. But with bed bugs, we don’t advise this.

What are bed bug killer kits and should you use them?

The killer kits contain a combination of ways to allegedly get rid of bed bugs, such as sprays and foggers. They are quite complicated to use and come with pages of instructions. What’s more, they rely on a raft of pesticides.

You will be introducing a range of pesticides in to your home. These will not be administered by professionals, but by yourself – you will be breathing them in. If you have pets or children, this could even be especially dangerous. Then there’s the big question:

Do they really work? What you have to understand is that many people are absolutely desperate to get rid of bed bugs. This is also a billion pound industry. What this means is that pest control products are a good way to make money. These bed bug killer kits are just one example of why DIY bed bug control is a bad idea. There may be cases when they work, but plenty when they do not. You might end up spending a lot of money, spraying a lot of chemicals and still not resolve the problem. But if all this is true, then how do you actually get rid of bed bugs?

What to do instead of killer kits to eliminate bed bugs

The answer is heat treatments. Unless you work in pest control, it’s unlikely that you would have heard of this technique so make sure to ask your pest controller. You see, when most people think of pest control, they imagine things like fumigation. The good news is that that method has fallen by the wayside. This industry is continually evolving, and so are pest control techniques. Heat treatments are the latest development. This method is now the industry standard for getting rid of bed bugs.

The reason why is simply because it works so well (and actually works, as opposed to bed bug killer kits). This method also has major benefits, compared to other ways of destroying pests so remember to prepare for a heat treatment. The biggest of these is that no chemicals, poisons, or pesticides are used. They simply are not necessary.

With the application of heat, all bed bugs, plus their nymphs and eggs, will die. This is in sharp contrasts to things like fumigation, which only kills adults bugs, and leaves behind their eggs. This is a serious issue, because the eggs later hatch and the problem begins all over again.

It also means that there is less preparation and clean up before and after the treatment. Ultimately, heat treatments are the best way to get rid of bed bugs. Avoid those bed bug killer kits and go for this instead.
