The annoying thing about bed bugs is that you can find them anywhere. Yes, these pests do not only live by our beds. It’s possible to find bed bugs anywhere in your home but there are rooms bed bugs are commonly found in. For example, some people have even discovered bed bugs in the bathroom. But why does this happen?
The biggest reason might be because you recently went on holiday. You see, bed bugs are mainly picked up while we’re on holiday. Perhaps you stay somewhere and the bugs crawl onto your clothing and into your luggage. You then come home with these pests. What often happens as well, is that these pests also crawl into your make-up, or toiletry bag. You put this bag in your bathroom, and the bugs crawl out and find a place to hide. They then begin to breed, and the next thing you know, your bathroom is infested.
Another reason why there might be bed bugs in the bathroom and live in other places is because of dirty clothing. Studies have found strong evidence that bed bugs are attracted to the scent of humans. This makes sense. By smelling humans, these pests are easily able to locate their prey.
If there’s a laundry basket in your bathroom, then this could be attracting bed bugs. The solution here might be to move your laundry basket or empty it more often. Something else that also occurs is that you bring bed bugs into your bathroom. This usually happens because there are bed bugs on your clothing. You then remove these clothes and leave them in the bathroom.
You may also have bed bugs in the bathroom because of heat. Like most insects and pests, bed bugs are attracted to heat. Pests naturally gravitate towards places that are warmer. Your bathroom is a place that often gets warm, and this is why it’s attracting these bugs. This is why it’s always a good idea to open up a window. This lets hot air out and keeps the bed bugs away.
Bed bugs also sometimes end up in bathrooms because of the moist environment, not matter if your home is clean or dirty. All pests need water to survive. Pests also favour a humid environment. Water and humidity could also be the reason why these bugs are in your bathroom. Finally, you may have bed bugs in the bathroom, simply because it’s a great place to hide. Our bathrooms have many dark and hidden away places. These provide perfect shelter for bed bugs. For example, these pests can hide in cupboards, under shelves, and behind sinks and toilets. They can even hide beneath cracked or broken tiles.
