What To Do With A Bed Bug Infested Mattress

Extreme Bed Bug Control

Published: April, 2022

What should you do if you have a bed bug infected mattress? In this type of situation, you really only have two options. The first is to get professional advice and treatment. The second – and this is a route that many people take – is to simply throw the mattress away.

How to save a bed bug infected mattress

The easiest way to handle a bed bug infected mattress is by getting professional help. After all, pest control professionals deal with this problem every day. What we’re trying to say is that solving this issue is relatively easy. The solution is heat treatments.

What we’ll do is bring in a heat treatment machine and place it in the room with your mattress if you’ve picked up bed bugs. This is basically a machine that generates hot air. It’s been scientifically proven that bed bugs cannot withstand extreme temperatures. After this machine has run for a few hours, and the room become hot enough, the bugs will simply die. This method will also help to kill any bed bugs that are hiding in other parts of the room. This method can solve your problem in only a few hours. Another great benefit is that it’s cheap and does not use any chemicals.

Throwing away a bed bug infested mattress

The second option, throwing out the mattress, is a lot trickier. The biggest issue is that you’ll have to go out and buy a new mattress. Not only is this inconvenient, it’s a waste of money as well. Depending on your financial situation you’ll probably want to avoid this. Trust us, beneficial heat treatments are a lot cheaper than getting a new mattress.

Throwing out a bed bug infected mattress is also slightly unethical. You see, someone may take your old mattress (it’s free, after all.) This person may then end up with bed bugs and suffer the same misery you are going through. You could write a note mentioning that the mattress has bed bugs. Unfortunately, there’s a good chance that people may ignore this. It’s also possible that people will take the mattress and sell it to someone else. It could also be embarrassing if your neighbours see the note!

What you also have to understand is that throwing out a mattress is a lot easier said than done. You cannot simply leave the mattress out on the pavement. You may be tempted to fly tip, but this can result in hefty fines and is definitely unethical, as well as illegal. What you’ll have to do is call the council and ask them to take it away. Again, this can be inconvenient and may incur a fee. Someone might take the mattress while waiting for the council.

Ultimately, the best way to deal with a bed bug infected mattress is to simply have it heat treated and prepare for this properly. This solution is far easier, cheaper, and simpler than throwing it away.
