One of the biggest problem with bed bugs is finding them. This is partly because these pests are incredibly small. They also have flat bodies which are able to squeeze under and into anything. Because of this, they are able to hide virtually anywhere and live undetected. In fact, bed bugs hide in some pretty strange places when they have a mind to.
When bed bugs actually live on beds, they are relatively easy to find. In most cases, they live close to their food source, which is human beings. For this reason, you most often find them around and inside bed bug infested mattresses and bed frames. That being said, sometimes bed bugs hide in weird and wonderful places. This is especially true if you’re taking measures to get rid of these bugs, and they are being evasive. For example, bed bugs may be hiding in the following areas.
If you have mats or rugs in your bedroom, be sure to check beneath them. Bed bugs can easily crawl under floor coverings. Also, if the mat has long fibres, then bed bugs may be hidden deep in the fronds.
This is another place where bed bugs hide. It’s also somewhere where people seldom check. Remember, part of the anatomy of bed bugs is that they have flat elongated bodies. This means they can easily wiggle beneath even the heaviest lamp.
Like most insects, bed bugs are more than capable of climbing to great heights. They are easily able to scale walls and hide behind pictures or wall hangings. The area behind these items are dark, which makes them a great place to hide. The majority of people would never think to look behind their pictures.
Bed bugs are small enough to climb into small electrical appliances. The area inside these appliances is pitch black, which is why it attracts bed bugs. For example, if you have a bed side clock, then make sure to look inside it on your bed bug hunt. Bed bugs may also be hiding inside things like your hairdryer. They have also been known to hide around fluorescent light bulbs. Another weird place where bed bugs hide is inside electrical sockets. These make a great living area, especially if you’re not using the plug.
If you have a headboard, then make sure to remove it and check for bed bugs there too. Headboards make the perfect hiding place, and this spot also gives them a home near to their food source.
Believe it or not, these bugs have also been known to live in the long fibres of stuffed animals. If your children have stuffed toys of any kind, then you may want to put them on a wash at the same time as the bedding. Of course, if you have an infestation, you should call for professional London bed bug control as soon as you spot even one of these insects.
