Want to tackle bed bugs once and for all in 2023? If you’ve struggled with these bugs this year because they’ve been particularly prevalent in 2022, then this will probably be your highest priority. But how do you keep bed bugs away? To help you out, here are some New Year’s resolutions which will help you prevent them.
First of all, make it your goal to keep a cleaner home. Ideally, you’ll want to vacuum every single day. If you can’t do this, then vacuum every other day, or at least once a week. Doing this will go a long way towards preventing bed bugs. Something else you’ll want to do is wash your bedding more often. Believe it or not, some people can go months without doing this. If you’re one of these people, then you need to do better.
Something else you should do to keep bed bugs out and get rid of them completely, is be on constant bed bug patrol. This means keeping a look out for the signs of these bugs. When cleaning your bedding, make sure to inspect it for brown or red spots. These spots are caused by smeared bed bug faeces, and blood left behind when the bugs feed. If you do spot these signs, then please take immediate action.
Another way to keep these insects out, is by being more careful with your clothing and avoid picking them up. You see, most people actually pick up bed bugs from outside their house. For example, you can easily get these bugs by walking through long grass, or through a wood. You can also get them from sitting on public transport, or even by visiting a friend’s house.
You then bring these bugs home and they crawl off your clothes, find a place to hide, and start multiplying. This means, that in order to keep bed bugs away, you need to carefully inspect your clothing. Do this whenever you get home from somewhere. Remember, they are extremely small, only about 4-7mm. This means you need to be extremely thorough when looking through your clothes. Take a close look at every crease, fold, and pocket. In fact, you may even want to do this with a torch. A torch will make the process easier, and help you find bugs which may be hidden on dark clothing.
It’s also a good idea to throw your clothing directly into a wash basket, and keep this located far from your bedroom. It’s an even better idea to put your clothing directly into the washing machine. This will guarantee that any bed bugs are destroyed immediately. One final thing to do is check through you bag, or rucksack. When doing this also use a torch.
