According to most people, bed bugs in the UK are a major problem. It’s really a case of when, not if that you get these bugs. That being said, is this really true? Is the bed bug problem really that serious, or is this issue completely blown out of proportion?
The unfortunate fact is that bed bugs are now considered a common household bug, especially in bed bug season. In fact, they are now almost as common as something like ants or spiders. The reason why bed bugs in the UK are such as issue, is because their numbers have increased exponentially.
This is mostly because people are travelling more than ever now. We have people coming in from all over the world, as well as people going on overseas holidays. These people are picking up bed bugs and returning with them to the UK. Another reason why bed bugs are now so common is because of indoor heating. This allows these pests to survive all year round. It also allows them to breed at a far faster rate than they could in colder climates.
That being said, bed bugs in the UK have always been an issue thanks to them hiding in weird places, so this is really nothing new. For example, according to the ministry of health, 1933 almost all houses had some level of bed bug infestation. The only real thing which has changed is the social stigma which surrounds these bugs.
In the past, people believe that bed bugs were attracted to dirt and filth which would help in avoiding picking them up. That if you had these bugs it meant that you were a dirty person. Even worse, it meant that you were to blame for the infestation. Thankfully today we know a lot better. The reality is that getting bed bugs has virtually nothing to do with how clean you are. Neither does it have anything to do with how clean your home is.
What this really means is that you should not be ashamed to get the help you need. If you have bed bugs, then do not hesitate to contact your local pest control expert. After all, this is what we deal with all day, so you don’t have to worry about being embarrassed. Not only that, getting rid of these bugs is actually extremely easy… believe it or not. With new procedures like heat treatments this problem can be solved in as little as a day. The bottom line is that bed bugs in the UK are extremely prevalent. And really, the proof in the pudding is the hundreds of calls we receive every year!
