Is There Anything That Bed Bugs Hate Or That Repels Them?

Extreme Bed Bug Control

Published: July, 2023

Bed bugs are an extremely nasty pest. The worst thing about these pests is that they attack when humans are sleeping. The thought of these pests crawling over you at night is extremely disturbing. Even worse are their bites. Bed bugs bite frequently, and in just a few days you’ll be covered with itchy red welts. But here’s the question. Is there a way to drive these pests away, or is there anything that bed bugs hate?

Which substances do bed bugs hate?

As it turns out, there are a few things that will keep these pests away but some are bed bug myths. For example, bed bugs hate nothing more than rubbing alcohol. This scent overpowers their senses and they avoid it as much as possible. Rubbing alcohol also dries out their bodies, which causes them to die. All you have to do is spray this alcohol around your bed. This should help to keep the bed bugs away.

What bed bugs hate as well is tea tree oil. They find this oil highly annoying, and won’t go anywhere near it. The oil gets all over their exoskeleton, and interferes with their ability to move. If you have bed bugs, try placing a few drops of tea tree oil on your nightstand. If you’re lucky, this could keep the bed bugs away.

Are there smells that bed bugs detest?

Something else that works for all pests is diatomaceous earth. This is a powder which is made from fossilised algae. This powder is extremely fine. Because it’s so fine, it’s sticks to the insect’s body. They cannot get it off, and eventually die. This happens because diatomaceous earth sucks up moisture. This interferes with the pest’s exoskeleton, and eventually kills them.

Something else that bed bugs hate is lemon juice. Lemon juice is highly acidic. When bed bugs make contact with this juice is causes harsh acid burns to their bodies. They then learn to stay away from anywhere that has this juice. The best way to use this solution is by mixing up a spray bottle of water and lemon juice. You can then spray this around the bottom of your bed. Be aware it can make things sticky!

Something else which bed bugs really dislike and will stop them from biting and releasing histamine is any type of pepper. The aroma of pepper is too much for their senses and so they stay away. One of the best peppers to use is cayenne pepper. Finally, essential oils are also said to be great for getting rid of bed bugs. In this case, lavender oil is probably the best thing for repelling bed bugs. It is also calming and soothing for humans!
