There’s nothing worse than when something goes wrong on your holiday. There are a number of things which could happen. From falling ill, to being a victim or crime, to getting ripped off on your accommodation. You can also add bed bugs to this list. But how do you deal with bed bugs across the world and what should you do about this issue?
What you should first understand is that bed bugs can strike no matter where you’re staying. These pests are not exclusively found in cheap accommodation. They infest all sorts of hotels, from the cheapest, to the most expensive. If you have to deal with bed bugs, then bear this in mind. Some people may have trouble believing that their five star accommodation has bugs, but it can actually happen.
Now, the first thing to determine is if the problem is actually bed bugs. These bites are red and extremely itchy. They’ll often appear after your first night in the hotel. They will also be found in a line or small cluster. The biggest sign is that you have bites on your face, neck, arms, or hands. Also check if you’re waking up with new bites every morning. If you see any of these signs, then you probably have bed bugs.
The thing to do in this case is immediately switch rooms. Do not ignore this problem because it will only get worse. Eventually it may ruin your entire holiday. Instead of enjoying yourself, you’ll be itching and scratching all day. Go down to the front desk and complain. Ask for another room and let them know that there’s a problem.
Before switching rooms, check your clothing and luggage for bugs. It’s extremely important that you do this properly. You do not want to transfer the bed bugs to your new room. What you should also do if you have to deal with bed bugs, is leave your luggage in the bathroom.
This way the bugs are not able to crawl into your bed. Something else you might want to do is leave your luggage and clothing out in the sun. Another way to deal with summer bed bugs on holiday is by placing clothing in plastic bags. This will also prevent the bugs from biting you at night.
When you wake up the next morning, carefully inspect your body for new bites. This is extremely important. If there are new bites, it probably means that the entire hotel is infested. In this case, it’s time to leave.
Go down to the front desk and inform them of this. Demand your money back and find a new hotel to stay in. Remember, this isn’t something you can ignore. The problem will only get worse. This is why it’s best to cut your losses and get out early.
