How do people actually get bed bugs? Do these pests come in from outdoors, or is there another factor at play? Well, what usually happens is that bed bugs hitch hike their way into your home. What we mean by this is that bed bugs attach themselves to you, and are then brought into your home. There are several ways in which this happens.
The main way that bed bugs hitch hike into your home is when you go on holiday. What usually happens is that you stay somewhere which is infested with these bugs and you forget to protect your luggage. While you staying at the hotel, these bugs make their way into your clothing or luggage, and are transported home.
What you also have to understand is that this can actually happen anywhere. It’s not only cheap hotels which have these pests. Bed bugs are found in almost all hotels, from the cheapest to the most expensive, especially in places with warmer weather. So just because you’re staying somewhere nice, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t watch out for bed bugs. Another way that bed bugs hitch hike into your home is when you use public transport. Believe it or not bed bugs can now be found on places like trains, buses, planes and taxis.
Something else to watch out for are public buildings. Because thousands of people pass through these buildings, there’s a good chance that some of them have bed bugs. For example, according to recent reports, more than one library is infected with bed bugs. Speaking of public buildings, if you have bed bugs, there’s a good chance your child picked them up from school.
When it comes to bed bugs, another thing you’ll want to watch out for are student digs. Students come and go a lot and the house may have bed bugs. The student then goes home and brings the bugs back with them.
Sometimes bed bugs hitch hike into your home because you stayed at a friend or family member’s house. This could even happen simply by sitting on a friend’s couch. Finally, bed bugs do actually live out in nature. This means you can even pick them up simply by going on a hike or having a picnic. There’s an extremely good chance that this could happen if you’ve visited a forest or walked through long grass.
No matter where you get bed bugs, it’s essential that you get rid of them quickly. These pests multiply rapidly and can make your life a living hell. The best way to deal with them is with a pest known as heat treatments. For more information on this, feel free to contact us.
