Fascinating Facts From Our London Bed Bug Experts

Extreme Bed Bug Control

Published: September, 2022

Out of all the work we do, bed bugs are probably where we have the most experience. In fact, we’re probably one of the UK’s top bed bug experts. Even if we do say so ourselves! The point is that we know how these pests operate and how to get rid of them. To prove this, here are a few little know bed bug facts, which very few exterminators ever learn.

Must know facts from the bed bug experts

1. These bugs don’t always leave a mark

Most bed bug experts will tell you to look for the signs of bed bugs. One of the biggest signs is that you’re covered in bites. But did you know that these bugs don’t always leave a mark? It’s true. This is especially when the bugs are still taking hold. At this stage there may be as few as 2-3 bugs. It’s only when their numbers grow into the dozens that you’ll start to see visible bites.

2. Bed bugs are smaller than you think

We usually think of these bugs are being bigger than they are. People imagine that they’re the size of a small cockroach or something like that. This simply isn’t true. Believe it or not, the biggest bed bugs are only about the size of an apply seed. This is the reason why they are so hard to detect and eradicate. These bugs are able to hide away in even the smallest crack or crevice. This is also the reason why methods like fumigation are mostly useless. Also, in case you’re wondering, most bed bug experts now recommend that you use heat treatments to kill these pests.

3. Bed bugs don’t actually bite you

This is another misconception. These bugs do not have teeth or pincers. Instead, they insert a sharpened tube into your skin (known as a proboscis.) This is what they use to suck out your blood. So bed bugs don’t bite.

4. Bed bugs have a strange way of mating

Squeamish bed bug experts will never tell you this! Did you know that bed bugs have an extremely weird way of mating and this is due to their anatomy? This is known as traumatic insemination. What happens is that the male tears into the female’s abdomen and injects sperm into the wound. Strange but true. It’s all part of the bed bug life cycle.

5. Bed bugs are evolving say bed bug experts

Like cockroaches, bed bugs are rapidly building an immunity to most insecticides. Even the most powerful compounds now have little to no effect on them. This is why we highly recommended that you use heat treatments when handling these bugs. This method of extermination does not use pesticides or chemicals. Instead, it uses natural heat, which bed bugs are not able to resist.
