Bed bugs are mostly associated with beds i.e. you find these bugs in your bedroom. But what you have to understand is that this isn’t exactly true. You see, due to the ubiquitous nature of these bugs, you can now pick up bed bugs anywhere. Even in public places.
Unsurprisingly, people often pick up bed bugs when staying at a hotel. And it’s not only cheap hotels. Even the most expensive places are known to have these bugs. Also, believe it or not, public transport is now infested with these bugs. Yes, according to a local paper, bed bugs are now prevalent on public transport. This can include places such as a bus or train. It can also include taxis, minicabs or even an airplane.
This happens because people transport bed bugs from home. The bug crawls onto your clothing or bag and then gets deposited on the train. Another place where this happens is office furniture. Once again, people bring bed bugs from home. In fact, any public place where you sit could have bed bugs. This is especially true if you’re sitting on something like a couch. Not only that, people do occasionally pick up bed bugs when they’re out in nature and can hide. These times could include when you’re having a picnic, or on a walk or hike.
If you bring back bed bugs from one of these places, it could cause major headaches. These bugs are extraordinarily difficult to get rid of. They cause bites which itch like crazy and will drive you up the wall.
The point is that it’s better not to pick up bed bugs in the first place. The best way to do this is by thoroughly inspecting your clothing once you arrive home. Instead of simply removing your clothes, give them a once over. Look along folds and creases and in pockets and always check a hotel room for signs of an infestation. Also inspect your bag. Something else you may want to do is drop your clothing directly into the wash basket. Avoid taking it into your bedroom entirely.
Also, if you’ve returned from holiday, then make sure to inspect your luggage. Carefully look over every item of clothing with a flashlight. Then take a look along the folds and creases of your luggage. You may also want to leave your luggage in the garage or an outside room for several days. This will give the bed bugs time to leave. Finally, if you have picked up these bugs, then call a pest inspector immediately. The longer you wait the more time the bugs have to multiply.
