Can Bed Bugs Live Inside A Mattress Out Of Sight?

Extreme Bed Bug Control

Published: March, 2023

Bed bugs are a persistent problem for many people. A big reason for this is because these pests are extremely difficult to remove. One of the reasons for this is due to their small size. What this means is that these pests can squeeze into the smallest spaces and hide almost anywhere. For example, many people may be wondering this: can bed bugs live inside a mattress? The unfortunate answer is yes. Here’s why.

Can bed bugs live inside a mattress?

Now, can bed bugs live inside a mattress? The good news is that in most cases they cannot. You see, if you buy a new mattress it is effectively “sealed.” What this really means is that there is no way for the bed bugs to get into the mattress. Therefore, they cannot live in the mattress.

The point at which bed bugs live inside a mattress happens when that mattress gets old. Over time your mattress may rip or tear. The material may also get weaker, and holes could form. Remember, bed bugs are extremely small and also flat. This means that even the tiniest rip gives bed bugs a way to get into your mattress.

If this happens, you’re in big trouble. These bed bugs are essentially unreachable and there is almost nothing you can do about it. They can live inside the mattress and keep breeding forever. No amount of washing and vacuuming will get rid of them. In fact, you may eventually have to throw away your mattress. You have to safely dispose of bed bug infested furniture.

Is there a solution to bed bugs in mattresses?

That being said, there are solutions for bed bugs in mattresses and other places to. One of these solutions are heat treatments. The reason why this method works is because it kills pests with heat. The heat treatment machine gradually warms up the area until all pests are dead. The big advantage here, is that this heat can penetrate almost anywhere, including deep inside your mattress.

This means that the bed bugs are no longer protected by simply being inside the mattress. What’s more, it actually gets extra hot inside of the mattress, and this gives them even less chance of escaping. The temperature kills bed bugs on contact. You can think of it as sitting in a car on a hot summer’s day. The inside is hotter than the outside.

The only disadvantage is that you cannot physically get into the mattress, and remove the dead ones. Sadly, this is something you’ll have to live with, but it’s a lot better than buying a new mattress. Bottom line, can bed bugs live inside a mattress? Yes, but with heat treatments this problem is solved. Simply call up your local pest controller and ask about heat treatments for bed bugs.
