Two of the worst pests you’ll ever encounter are fleas and bed bugs. This is mostly because these pests bite us. These bites itch like crazy, and can cause considerable distress. But between a flea infestation, or bed bug infestation, which is worse?
In our learned opinion, a bed bug infestation is far worse than a flea infestation. The reason for this is quite simple. You see, when you get down to it, fleas are not that big of a nuisance. These pests do bite you, but these bites quickly go away. In addition to this, they only bite your feet and ankles, and wearing shoes and socks can prevent this. What’s more, fleas are often confined to a certain section of your house. This mostly includes areas with carpets, or the area where your pets sleep.
Bed bugs, on the other hand, cause way more problems than a flea infestation. To start with, their bites are far more intense and they multiply quickly. These pests bite every part of your body which is exposed. This includes your arms, legs, hands, neck, and even your face. These bites also itch a lot more than flea bites and take longer to go away.
Another problem with bed bugs is that they attack when you’re most vulnerable i.e. when you’re sleeping. Our beds are supposed to be a place of refuge, relaxation, and restoration. The idea that bugs are crawling around in your bed is sickening.
And this is the real reason why bed bugs are worse than a flea infestation. These pests can cause significant mental distress. To being with, they make difficult to sleep, and can actually make you into an insomniac. They can also create feelings of depression, anxiety and hopelessness. They make you feel dirty, or unhygienic, or as if you’ve done something wrong.
This leads us to our next point, which is that these pests are almost impossible to get rid of. If you’ve been infested by bed bugs, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. These pests hide away in the deepest cracks and crevices inside and around your bed. Washing and vacuuming isn’t enough to get rid of them. No matter how much you wash and vacuum, they always seem to return. This can drive people up the wall and create a truly desperate situation.
In fact, these pests are so hard to get rid of that some people resort to extreme measures, but both can be treated with heat treatments. This often includes things like moving to a new flat or throwing out their mattress. We after a simple treatment to get rid of bed bugs. Bottom line, fleas are nothing compared to bed bugs.
