There’s a common misconception that bed bugs are the result dirt and filth. This isn’t actually true. In fact, these bugs can show up no matter how clean your home may be. Instead, the reason why you get these bugs is because they migrate from one place to another. The way they do this is by “hitching a ride” with humans. This can happen in many different ways. The most common is when you stay in a hotel room that is infested with these bugs. To prevent this from happening you should always check your hotel room for bed bugs. Here’s how to do this.
First of all, do not immediately unpack when entering your room. You need to check your hotel room for bed bugs before doing this because this is a shared room where bed bugs are very common. Bed bugs can get into your luggage and clothing, even if it is unpacked for a few minutes. The best thing you can do is place your luggage in the bath until you’ve finished looking for bugs.
Second, do not turn on the lights when walking into the room. These pests are highly sensitive to light and avoid it as much as possible. Along with this, it may help if you close the curtains. Something else you need to do is pack a torch when going on holiday or a business trip. You’re going to use this torch to look for bed bugs. You’ll also need a plastic card, such as you bank or credit card.
To begin to check your hotel room for bed bugs, pull the duvet and sheet off the mattress.
Start at the corners of the bed, as this is where bed bugs are most likely to be found. Shine the torch and look for crawling bugs. These bugs are easy to spot and you’ll know them when you see them. Also, look for other signs like dark brown spots. These dark spots are caused by the bed bugs faeces. Always make sure to find out about us before you travel in case you need our services upon your return.
Then remove the sheets from the mattress itself. Work around the perimeter of the mattress. Pay close attention to the folds of seams. This is where your bank card will come in useful. You can slide it beneath the seams, folds, and other places where bugs may be hiding. Once you’ve checked the mattress, look at your sheets and bedding. You’re looking for the bugs themselves, and also for brown spots. When this is done, check all furniture. Make sure to slide your bank card along the seams of the furniture as well. Also make sure you check the curtains.
Then slide your card along the place where the headboard meets the wall. This is a favourite hiding place for bed bugs. Finally, shine your torch beneath the bed, and also look around the nightstands. Do not skip any of these steps or do them half-heartedly. It’s critically important that you check your hotel room for bed bugs. In fact, according to pest controllers you have a 68% chance of picking up these bugs from your hotel room. So do your checks properly. If you do find you have bed bugs, use our London located pest services. We work in and around central London for people with bed bug problems.
